A consumer unit, which is also sometimes known as an electrical fuse box or a fuse board, is designed specifically to distribute electricity which is coming in from a mains supply to individual circuits which are spaced around your property. Consumer units act as the control centre for your power supply and help to prevent fires or even electrical shocks. This is because each circuit is monitored and if the system will trip if an overload occurs. Your distribution board will usually include a main switch which is used to turn the power off and on manually if you need to isolate your supply.
